An oval egg-size burgundy colour fruit, some variety can be orange in colour. It
contains red-orange flesh and a tangy flavoured seeds.
 | HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Native to Peru and Brazil. Grown like a tomato.
 | BUYING AND STORAGE
|
Choose large firm, plump, shiny coloured fruit. Yields to like pressure when ripe.
Ripen at room temperature, refrigerate when ripe and will keep up to 1 week.
 | PREPARATION AND USE
|
Peel and slice fruit, and add to sweet and savoury salad. Puree and use for sauce
and drinks. Great with ice cream. Can be poach and bake whole and serve like a tomato.
