DESCRIPTION

Strawberry are usually big and has smooth red skin. They are sweet and juicy.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

A member of the rose family. Native to North America and in the past, Strawberries was recommended for pregnancy because it was once believed that it would strengthen the pelvic floor.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Select firm, well shape medium-size Strawberries with bright, even colouring and green stem caps. Avoid large and badly shaped Strawberries as they are poor in flavour. Store in the Strawberries in the container unwashed and uncovered in the refrigerator. Use as soon as possible.

PREPARATION AND USE

Wash the Strawberries (if possible not wash to retain the full flavour), drain and then remove the stem caps. Strawberries can be eaten fresh in hand. Can be cut in half, slice or whole and sprinkle with some icing sugar or castor sugar. Can be added in the fruit salad, serve with ice cream, or cream.
