DESCRIPTION

Glossy yellow shaped fruit with five fins when cut it produce a star shape. Some variety could be greenish in colour and the flesh is translucent.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Originated in Malaysia and Indonesia. Now it is cultivated in South East Asia and Australia.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Look for firm fruit with a floral-fruity aroma. Ripe when it turns deep yellow. Avoid brownish fins top. Ripen at room temperature. Refrigerate when ripe and will keep for 2 weeks.

PREPARATION AND USE

Rinse and cut off the corner fins and cut into thin slices. Can be eaten fresh in hand but preferable use with fruit salads and garnishes.

VARIETY

BILIMBI:   A small variety and is greener in colour and has a sour taste. Use for cooking.

SOUR FINGER:   Also called Belimbing Wuluh, a like green acidic fruit. It has a firm rough skin and look something like a small under ripe mango.
