DESCRIPTION

A round fruit with a flat bottom. Skin turns from yellow-green to purple-brown like a ripe fig. It contains segments of white translucent flesh shape like a star.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

The fruit is originated in Central America and West Indies. The Star Apple is related to Sapodilla and Sapote.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Select fruit with a firm, plump purple-brown skin. Ripen at room temperature until soft and then store in the refrigerator until required.

PREPARATION AND USE

Cut fruit in half and serve fresh in hand or used in fruit salad. Good for making puree for drinks, ice cream or sauce.
