DESCRIPTION

Related to Beetroot and Spinach with glossy dark green leaves and white veins and stems.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Silverbeet the the oldest type of Beet known to be used as a vegetable and was originated in Europe around the Mediterranean.  It is misnamed Spinach in Australia.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Choose crisp, fresh, undamaged leaves with crisp white stalks.  Refrigerate in plastic bag and will keep up to 3 days.

PREPARATION AND USE

Trim and remove stalks, wash leaves and slice or chop.  Use in stir-fry, puree and pies or quiche.
