Pepino is a small melon fruit which comes in the size of an apple. It has a
creamy-green satinlike skin with a purple stripes and the flesh is pale yellow and it's
very juicy. The seeds are soft and edible. Pepino has a delicate flavour which has a
mixture of melon, lemon and pineapple.
 | HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Natively grown in Peru and Chile. Experts have said that the Pepino is a berry
that has no fertile seeds, and that it must be raised from being cut and grown somehow
like a tomato.
 | BUYING AND STORAGE
|
Select firm Pepino Melon with oval shape and yellow skin with purple stripes. When
the fruit is ripe, it is slightly soft and gives a fragrant aroma. It can be ripen at room
temperature and refrigerate when ripe.
 | PREPARATION AND USE
|
Wash and dry fruit. Peel and remove the seeds and cut in wedges and serve fresh.
Can be eaten for breakfast. Also can be used in fruit platter, fruit salad or chicken
salad.
