DESCRIPTION

Nectarines are quite similar to the peach in shape and colour but the difference between this two fruit is that, the skin is smooth with a shiny red-yellow colour.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Nectarines are natively grown in China. The flesh of the nectarines are used to be white but since it was crossed between the peach, the flesh now becomes yellow or pink and also becomes larger and firmer.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Select bright, firm and even-coloured fruit with a slightly softening along the seam. Ripen at room temperature and then store in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

PREPARATION AND USE

Wash. Peel if desired. Coat with lemon juice after cutting to prevent browning. Eaten fresh or eat in fruit salad and dessert, can be stewed or poached.
