DESCRIPTION

Mango is a soft fruit which comes in large or small size depends on the variety. The skin is usually green and the flesh is a pleasant, fragrant light orange colour.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

It is believed that the Mangoes are originated in Malaysia and India. The Mangoes are known to be one of the first tropical fruits and favourite fruit of many people. The name comes from the Tamil man-key ("fruit of the tree").

BUYING AND STORAGE

Choose fruit that are smooth, firm and fragrant and that the skin are soft. It will yield when you apply a gentle pressure to it. Mangoes can be ripen at room temperature and then be put in the vegetable crisper in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

PREPARATION AND USE

Wash and peel the mango, then removed the seed in the middle of the flesh and eat the fruit fresh in hand. The best ways to eat the mango, is to cut the two cheeky flesh off, as near to the seed as possible, then cut each cheeky flesh into small cube squares and push the skin inwards so that the flesh pushes up like a porcupine. Mangoes can be use to serve on a fruit platter, salads and dessserts.

PALMER: Red skin mango and firm yellow flesh.

HAYDEN:  A yellow-orange skin mango and yellow flesh. Great for eating

KENT:     Have a thinner skin and are less fibrous.

TOMMY ATKINS:   Have a thinner skin and are less fibrous.

R2E2: A large mango with yellow to orange skin andyellow flesh, excellent eating.

IRWIN: Bright red skin with adash of yellow and yellow flesh. 

KENSINGTON:  Yellow-pink skin, can turn to yellow with spots. Excellent eating mango.
