DESCRIPTION

There are many varieties of grapes and the colours ranges from light green to purple or red. Green grapes are usually known as white and purple grapes are usually known as black. The pulp are usually transparent and contains a few seeds. Generally speaking Table Grapes are usually being eaten if not the grapes will be made into wine.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Grapes are one of the oldest fruit ever cultivated by man. Wine was first recorded around the 3000bc in Egypt and Mesopotamia where was used in temples ceremony. Grapes are now cultivated for making wine and eating throughout the whole world.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Select plump well-coloured grapes with firm stems. Avoid split or wet grapes and try one or two to test for sweetness. Refrigerate grapes wrapped in plastic with some air hole to keep the grapes dry. This will keep up to 5 days.

PREPARATION AND USE

Wash well before use. Dry with kitchen paper towel. Great for snacks, juicing, dessert, fruit salad, or can be freezed and dried.

VARIETY

CARDINAL:   A large purple round fruit, soft-skinned. The flesh lack in flavour and grow in large and unevenly shaped bunches.

FLAME SEEDLESS:   A smallish grape, red skin and very sweet.

NAPOLEON:   Thick dark purple skin, very large grapes has white flesh and very sweet but not very juicy.

MUSCAT:    This large grapes has a wonderful perfume flavour, a range of colour from white varieties to the red or black varieties. The best grapes is the white and it's great for making wine.

ITALIA:     Round large grapes with greenish yellow skin, a  musky flavour, soft flesh and very sweet.

PERLETTE:    Small white seedless grapes, thin skin with a tart flavour.
