DESCRIPTION

A tropical grass plant related to bamboo.  It has pale yellow flesh and smooth brown golden skin.  Ginger its a root crop and have a pungent spicy aroma.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Ginger is native to Asia and it was one of the first oriental spices to reached South Eastern Europe in the ancient spice trade.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Select plump heavy and smooth root free from soft spots and wrinkles.  Store in refrigerator and wrap in foil or in cool dark place and well ventilated.

PREPARATION AND USE

Use fresh grated ginger in stir-fry and salad.  A good accompaniment to all meat dishes.  Ginger also can be used for marinate and Asian's soups and sweets.
