DESCRIPTION

A long round beanlike vegetable with a hard green skin .  It grows on the tree and has its size and shape similar to a drumstick.  The texture is like a Zucchini.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

Originated in India and is now cultivated in Malaysia.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Usually available in the Asian food store, select firm with deep green skin and avoid marks skin and soft spots.  Store in the refrigerator wrap in a plastic bag and will last up to 2 weeks.

PREPARATION AND USE

Cut it into equal lengths and trim off the ends.  Can be boil, steam or microwave.  Serve with a sauce, butter or add to curries.
