 | DESCRIPTION

Dill is a fragrant all year round plant
which grows up to 1m in height. It has ferny, deep green leaves and
yellow flowers which comes from one single stalk. It is similar to
Fennel but smaller.
 | HISTORY AND ORIGIN

This herb plant is mentioned in the Old
Egyptian texts, Greek and Roman literature and was in the Bible, and in the
Middle Ages for ailments such as flatulence and colic. The name comes
from Norse dilla meaning to lull, was make known to its soothing qualities.
 | BUYING AND STORAGE
|
Fresh dill leaves comes in a good
colour but because of its softness it may droop. If stored in a
refrigerator in a bowl of water or wrapped up in a sorbent paper or foil
should be able to keep up to 2 days. Dill seeds are dried can be bought at
the international gourmet shops.
 | PREPARATION AND USE
|
Add finely chopped leaves to soups,
potatoes, salads, grilled meats and salmon. Use whole branches as
garnish.
