Carrot is a root crop and closely related to Celery and
Parsnip. Has a bright orange root and green fern leaves.
HISTORY AND ORIGIN
Originate in Europe and Afghanistan. Carrot seeds were
found in the remains of the Bronze Age between 2000 - 3000 BC.
BUYING AND STORAGE
Look for firm, smooth skinned Carrot with bright colouring.
Avoid cracks and soft limpy Carrot. Refrigerate Carrots wrapped in plastic
and will keep up to 2 weeks.
PREPARATION AND USE
Rinse and trim the ends. Peel or scrub. Use raw or cooked.
May be used in casserole, soup, salads and cakes.
NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION
Excellent source of vitamin A and a moderate source of
vitamin C and fibre.
