Brussel Sprouts look like miniature cabbage, it grows tiny
heads at the base of the leaves along the stem and it has a bitter flavour.
 | HISTORY AND ORIGIN

It is thought to have been originated in the City of
Brussels in Belgium, in the 13th century.
 | BUYING AND STORAGE
|
Choose small, brightly coloured Brussel Sprouts that are
firm and compact. The small ones has the best flavour. Refrigerate fresh
Brussel Sprouts in a plastic bag and will keep up to 3 days.
 | PREPARATION AND USE
|
Rinse well. Trim the outer leaves and cut an "X"
in the bottom of the sprouts to allow the heat to penetrate. Cook by
boiling, steaming, stir-frying or in the microwave oven until tender. Do not
overcook. Use in soups, savoury dishes and casserole or as it is.
