DESCRIPTION

Anise herb loves the sun and grows to the height of 50cm tall where the leaves are serrated and feathery. The flowers comes in a creamy-white colour.  The seeds has a strong liquorice taste that comes in light brown and oval shape.

HISTORY AND ORIGIN

During the Roman times, it was used as a flavouring in cakes which was believed to helped assist digestion at the end of a rich meal.  Anise was also know to have helped with the stubborn coughs.  It's native country was the Middle east and has been for many years, but the main suppliers are India, Spain, North Africa and Italy whom these are the countries that only supplied to the world.

BUYING AND STORAGE

Although anise seeds have a strong liquorice taste, they can lose that strong taste if not store properly in an airtight glass jar which have to be keep away from sunlight.  Always a good idea to buy in small amount.

PREPARATION AND USE

The seeds can be used as a topping for crusty bread or added to vegetables.  Aniseed is famous for its drinks such as pernod, anisette and ouzo.  It is used for making aniseed sweets.
